ElliSa

2-way floorstanding loudspeaker 8" +1" + WG

This project was based on the prototype work with large standmount cabinets and there were several lessons learned.

Prototype cabinets had 37l net volume. I was not quite impressed with the bass performance, which was too dry and missed bottom end body and weight. There were two factors causing that. The first was cabinet volume. With 2way loudspeakers it is always very important to hit the volume range where the lower end extention is good while maintaining good midrange quality. Too high volume and midrange quality suffers. For ElliSa I decided to go with 40l internal volume. The second, 21WE is not really bass driver and its strenghts are in the high sensitivity and midrange performance. But it does not mean it cannot be made to work well in 40l BR providing great bass and also midrange.

I decided to help lower end extention a bit and added the weight to the cone which lowered the sensitivity in the midrange region. As this driver has high sensitivity it was a good tradeoff and it made the bass sounding more relaxed and less dry.

Final cabinet got wider baffle, which improved lower midrange performance.
